This is a prototype
Scenario:
Planning camera positions and movements prior to a film shoot.

Problems:

  • What will the camera views look like at set points in time?
  • What will the views be like between the set points?
  • Will the cameras collide with anything?
  • Will the cameras cause unwanted shadows?
  • Will different cameras be in the view of each other?

Solution:

Create a scene in Unity to simulate the shoot (or for AR this may be more than a simulation). Client communicates with the scene to set camera positions and preview shots at and between KeyFrames.

Project Features:

  • TCP messaging of KeyFrames and camera shots.
  • Unity cameras move between KeyFrames.
  • Electron app allows you to position the movable cameras and preview views whilst transitioning between KeyFrames.
  • Range of transitions not just linear.
  • Camera collisions highlighted.
  • Tool to convert real-time scene play to animation to be compatible with previewer.

TODO: (to begin with)

  • Improve camera controls (field of view, focal length, focus distance, aperture, effects).
  • Setup options to add various realistic cameras.
  • Physical limitations of camera highlighted (e.g. can it accelerate fast enough to reach KeyFrame position).
  • Convert to Plugin for use with any Unity scene.
